After warning the country that the system was severely constrained on the afternoon of Monday 11 April, Eskom has made the decision to implement stage 2 loadshedding with immediate effect. This decision comes after another generator unit has tripped.
Eskom has struggled with 5 breakdowns today
Taking to Twitter, the power supplier tweeted that there has been another breakdown in the system. This time it is at the Medupi Power Station in Limpopo, where 700 MW capacity tripped offline.
And earlier in the day, the company released a statement explaining another four breakdowns across the grid as well as two units that are still offline due to a delayed service.
This led to Eskom calling for loadshedding so that pressure can be taken off of the system.
Furthermore, the company urges all customers to be mindful of the amount of electricity they use and to keep most appliances off where possible.
