Just as South Africans thought it was lights, camera, action Eskom announced a quick interruption in power for the evening. Many South Africans are currently sitting in the dark with no prior knowledge of the Stage 2 load shedding being implemented from 21:00 – 05:00 Tuesday morning.
This just after we got the word that a few days of load shedding was enough for Eskom to repair the emergency generation reserves. “The period of load shedding assisted us in replenishing the emergency generation reserves in anticipation of the week ahead.”
What is the reason for tonight’s load shedding?
In a press release to the public, Eskom announced that the short notice for tonight’s load shedding has been implemented to conserve and replenish emergency reserves.
Originally, power cuts were said to be implemented from Wednesday to Monday and the whole of South Africa was set to undergo Stage 2.
“This load shedding is necessary due to a shortage of generation capacity following breakdowns of two more generating units during the night,“ Eskom said in a statement on Wednesday. Let’s hope that this is just a one night occurrence from the local power company. Eskom continues to plead with South African citizens to conserve energy usage as they continue to work relentlessly to maintain the power stations.
