Embattled power utility Eskom has announced the implementation of stage 6 loadshedding from Monday afternoon as it says its systems remain vulnerable.
Eskom said in a statement on Sunday that “loadshedding would continue to be implemented at various stages” throughout the week, depending on how the recovers, following last week’s industrial action.
Unions and Eskom are still having wage talks and the power utility has put the blame for the continuous rolling blackouts on the strike action from its members.
Sikonathi Mantshantsha, Eskom spokesperson said stage 6 will return on Monday afternoon. “Depending on several possibilities including the workforce fully returning to work to conduct much-needed repairs to equipment it is anticipated that loadshedding will gradually be lowered to stage 2 by the weekend. Of course, Eskom will communicate and implement any changes as may be necessary should the need arise in between.”
Stage 2 will be implemented until 05:00 on Monday, after which stage 4 will begin. From 16:00 until 22:00, stage 6 loadshedding will kick in. On Tuesday said it expects to implement stage 2 laodshedding from midnight until 05:00, increasing to stage 4 until 16:00. Stage 5load shedding will start from 16:00 until 22:00.
