On Tuesday morning, Twitter announced that Elon Musk will be joining its board of directors after taking a 9.2% passive stake in the social media company.
And the SpaceX and Tesla billionaire certainly wasted no time to “make significant improvements” as he focuses on Twitter’s feature priorities – particularly the lack of an “edit” button.
Elon Musk calls upon all Twitter users
In the early morning hours of Tuesday (SA time), Musk put a poll out on Twitter asking his 80 million followers whether they would want an “edit” button.
And in classic Elon Musk style, his point came strongly across as he deliberately misspelled both the words “yes” and “no”.
Why the fuss over a simple edit button?
The “edit button” has been one of the most requested features of the social media platform. And in an ideal world, users would then be able to simply clean up typos after publishing tweets.
However, many critics are against the implementation of the button as they forsee the button being “abused” and would allow users to “substantially change the meaning of tweets after they’ve been shared across the platform”.
This is also why Twitter CEO, Parag Agrawal, commented on Musk’s poll, stating how important the consequences of the outcome will be.
After Musk was appointed to Twitter’s board of directors, the company’s shares rose over 7% in premarket trading. And according to CNBC, Musk’s 9.2% is worth almost $3 billion.
