Another child has been kidnapped in Cape Town, this time an eight-year-old girl was snatched outside her home in Gatesville, Athlone.
Witnesses say that Abidah Dehkta was taken out of a vehicle in Amber Court by two armed men at approximately 07:20 on Friday morning.
According to Fowzia Veerasamy, Gatesville Neighbourhood chairperson, two men held up the driver and grabbed the little girl from the passenger seat.
She said the girl’s lift club arrived at Amber court at about 07:20 to pick her up.
“This is when two men held the driver at gunpoint, and took his cellphone and keys, and grabbed the chid. They put her in a white double cab bakkie,” Veerasamy told the publication.
Information received said the two African men who snatched the child fled in the direction of Gugulethu.
The Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) is calling on residents to pray for her safe return.
Abdul Khaliq Allie, the council’s secretary-general said: “The Muslim Judicial Council condemns the kidnapping of this eight-year-old child. It appeals to the community to give their full support to the investigating team and we equally appeal to the community to be equally vigilant all the time.”
Warrant Officer Joseph Swatrbooi, Provincial police spokesperson said no information would be divulged due to the sensitivity of the incident.
“The incident at Gatesville this morning, Friday, 4 November 2022, is under police investigation. Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, this office will not divulge any information that might Jeopardise the investigation,” says Swartbooi.
The police have called on anyone who might have information that could help find the missing girl to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
Last month, Ukrainian national Anichka Penev was kidnapped in broad daylight in her yellow Audi R8 after unknown assailants ambushed her.
The incident was captured on footage in front of Nioro plastics in Ipswitch Road in Blue Downs, and the 35-year-old woman was seen trying to fight for her release but was overpowered.
