The KwaZulu-Natal education department has condemned an incident where a female teacher pointed a gun at learners at the Phambili Secondary School in Rossburgh in Durban. The incident has forced parents to march to the school and call for the teacher’s removal.
The department said they have been receiving complaints about the female teacher who was using a firearm to discipline learners in class.
The parents noted that other teachers at the school were afraid of her, and she had turned the school into a dungeon.
“Where have you ever seen a teacher who silences students in class with a gun? This is absurd and she should leave the school immediately,” said an angry parent. The parents signed a petition which they handed over to the school principal.
The department said it was investigating the disturbing matter and whether disciplinary action had been taken against the teacher who unnecessary means to discipline learners.
“She was suspended before for other misconduct and we have a report from the school to say that this is what she is doing, and we have gotten complaints from her colleagues, and learners and parents,” said spokesman Muzi Mhlambi.
