On Sunday, 6 February, the family of hip-hop DJ Boitumelo Athiel ‘Dimplez’ Mooi sadly confirmed that the artist died from a brain haemorrhage.
“It is with deep sadness that the Mooi family announces the untimely passing of Boitumelo Athiel Mooi, popularly known as DJ Dimplez,” the family confirmed in a statement.
The tragic news comes as a hard hit to the local entertainment industry as only a few days have passed since Ricky Rick’s sad passing. And just by chance, DJ Dimplez’s last Instagram post is of him at the late rapper’s memorial service on Friday.
DJ Dimplez was a pioneer for the music industry
DJ Dimplez was the founder and pioneer of the Pop Bottles event series. He was seen as a massive contributor in the industry and played a big role in solidifying a space in South Africa for hip hop DJs.
Dimplez was popular in clubs and festivals and had music featuring on most music charts. And his most well-known songs include We Ain’t Leaving, on which he featured Anatii and L-Tido, and Way Up featuring Cassper Nyovest and JR.
