Director General in the Presidency Phindile Baleni has received death threats in a form of a letter and a bullet in the letter box in her home. The letter was accompanied by a bullet.
Presidential spokesperson Vincent Mangwenya said the threat comes from a “person or persons who want to affect the Presidency’s processing of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry findings into alleged state capture, fraud and corruption I the public sector including organs of state”.
Baleni reportedly found the life-threatening letter in her letterbox at home. It came in an envelope with a bullet in it. Mangwenya said Baleni is receiving protection to enable her to carry on with her critical duties, which include being Cabinet Secretary and convenor of the Forum of South African Director-General, said the government.
“The fight against crime and corruption will be unaffected by this threat against Baleni,” Mangwenya.
The death letter sent to Baleni makes refence to the deaths of Thabo Masebe and Babita Deokaran. The letter also requests that Baleni ensures that President Ramaphosa releases the suspects in the Deokaran case. In addition to this, the letter requests that Ramaphosa should not proceed with the findings of the State Capture report.
The letter says, “we know where you drive and all your visiting points…those two cars you always travel with, we have a good plan for them.”
