According to the Department of Health, 168 445 shots were given to adults across SA. This pushes the total number of Covid-19 vaccines to 180 166 in the past 24 hours.
Since the start of the vaccination rollout programme, SA has now administered 21 514 033 vaccines. And in addition, the country is now home to 11 697 646 fully vaccinated adults, while 61 997 single Pfizer shots have been given to youngsters.
Over a hundred new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours
According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a total of 4 477 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. Out of this amount, only 146 new cases came back as positive, representing a 1% positivity rate.
Gauteng resulted as having the highest number of new infections with a total of 44 new cases. KwaZulu-Natal followed with 38 new cases, Western Cape with 24, and Northern Cape with 11 new Covid-19 cases. The rest of the provinces recorded under 10 additional cases each.
Even though positive rates are looking better, death rates are still increasing
Nine more people sadly passed away due to the disease. This pushes the death toll to a total of 88 934 to date, while hospital admissions have increased with 24 new patients.
The NICD reminded citizens to adhere to preventative measures to help limit the risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19.
The institute is encouraging people to vaccinate for COVID-19, wear masks to cover the nose, gather in ventilated spaces, avoid unnecessary gatherings, keep a social distance of one metre or more and wash hands regularly with soap and water.
