A joint operation by Sasolburg SAPS and external stakeholders successfully made an impact when two business owners of counterfeit alcohol and illicit cigarettes were arrested on Wednesday, 11 May 2022 in the Central Business District.
The first business person was arrested after her two shops were visited where bottles of counterfeit alcohol and illicit cigarettes were found as per police spokesperson, Captain Malebo Khosana.

The second businessman was arrested after the team visited his shop. Similarly, illicit liquor was also found on his business premises.
Liquor and cigarettes were confiscated and the two undocumented persons, a male aged 38 and a female 47 were taken into custody.
“The duo was charged for dealing in counterfeit/illicit liquor and cigarettes,” said Khosana.
They will appear on Thursday,12 May 2022 in Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court.

According to Fezile Dabi District Commissioner, Maj Gen Moses Makubo, joint operations are a good strategy to prevent and combat crime.
“Multi-disciplinary approach to criminal elements will send a message to criminals that we are squeezing the space for them in Fezile Dabi District,” concluded Maj Gen Makubo.
