South African born actress Charlize Theron hasn’t forgotten her roots as she urges her followers to donate to the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) relief fund after the province was hit by devastating floods and mudslides.
Charlize Theron asks for help from those who can
The Oscar-winning actress, who was born in Benoni, Gauteng, took to social media on Monday 18 April to shine a light on the KZN disaster.
“My home of South Africa is going through an extraordinarily difficult time.”
Theron noted that she realises that “much of the world is in pain right now” and a lot is being asked. However, to those who are able to, she urges them to donate to the KZN relief fund.
CTAOP pledged all donations to flood victims
The death toll from the floods has risen to over 400, with 63 people still missing. More than 13 000 households have also been either destroyed or affected by what has been classified as one of the worst catastrophes in the province.
And so The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) has vowed to donate all donations it receives to the victims of the catastrophe.
“For my organisation CTAOP, we see our most critical role as supporting our partners in whatever challenges they face – and right now, organisations in KZN are reeling, trying to support their communities however they can, as affected families desperately need food, water, and shelter,” Theron wrote in her caption.
Prayers and concerns for the citizens of KZN continue as thousands of people struggle to get by after the floods.
And President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially declared South Africa back into a national state of disaster.
And according to Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the newly re-implemented national state of disaster will be in place for a period of three months.
