Former State Security Agency director-general Arthur Fraser said he provided the Hawks with additional information to assist in the investigation of a criminal complaint he laid against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
In a statement on Wednesday, Fraser said he had a fruitful meeting with the Hawks on June 15 where he gave them more information against Ramaphosa. Fraser assisted law enforcement officials in the criminal case he laid against the president following the theft of what the former spy boss said was $4 million (just over R60 million) at Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala game farm in 2020.
Fraser said the president concealed the crime from authorities while the suspects were abducted, questioned while tortured and paid off for their silence on the crime. Fraser said he “appreciates the professionalism and the speed with which the Hawks responded to the complaint”.
He said instead of the president taking the matter to the police, he conspired with Rhoode to track down the men behind the robbery. The suspects were found in Namibia and were allegedly tortured, along with a female domestic worker who is believed to have conspired with the men in executing the robbery.
“The Hawks investigators met with Arthur Fraser today. The purpose of the meeting was to update him on the case that was initially registered as to understand the nature of the complaint personally from him, as well as obtain clarity on certain issues that are contained in the affidavit,” said Thandi Mbambo, the Hawks spokesperson.
Ramaphosa confirmed that the incident happened and was allowing the investigations to proceed before commenting any further on the matter.
