The stage is set for the crowning of the new King of the Zulu Nation, with thousands of people expected to make their way, including Kings, traditional and political leaders, members of royal families from all over the world and ordinary people.
Heavy security will be deployed in KwaNongoma and surrounding areas ahead of the official crowning of King Misuzulu kaZwlithinion Saturday. Zulu cultural watchers also known as Amabutho said they expect the Khangelamankengane Royal Palace to be heavily guarded as thousands will be making their way to celebrate the new King.
The new Zulu Monarch is expected to wear a hide of the lion that he hunted for the royal event, a key traditional feature of proving that he is indeed the chosen one. More than 10 cows have been slaughtered in preparation for the festivities.
Next month the new Zulu King will be hosted by the government for a state ceremony. The date of the coronation by government, to be presided over by President Cyril Ramaphosa is yet to be decided.
The Zulu Kingdom has a proud history. It is famously known for defeating the British troops during the 1879 battle of Isandlwana.
The succession battles have always been fiercely contested and at times bloody. The legendary King Shaka ka Senzangakhona killed his brother in 1816 in order to take the throne, then was himself assassinated in a plot masterminded by his nephew years later.
Following the passing of the late King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, there have been court battles from the royal family over who the new King is supposed to be.
Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the traditional prime minister of the Zulu Nation has stood firm in support of King Misuzulu, despite fierce opposition from other members of the royal family.
Prince Thulani Zulu, a spokesperson of the of the family member in support of Misuzulu said: “We are busy finalising things, and we are hopeful that everything will go well without any glitches.”
