Breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day! If you are usually in a rush in the morning, these healthy breakfasts will be the perfect simple meals to energize you and kickstart your long day ahead! These 5 simple breakfasts are healthy and are super quick and easy to make, and will suit your busy lifestyle perfectly.
1. Nut Butter and Banana Toast
While quite a simple breakfast, this nut butter and banana toast is loaded with fibre, and both nut butter and bananas are a great source of energy. This means they are the perfect food to give you that much-needed boost in the morning. What is also great about this breakfast is that there are also many different variations of nut butter, be it the classic peanut butter, almond nut butter, macadamia nut butter, or even cashew nut butter- the choice is yours! Nut butter is also a great source of protein.
2. Homemade Berry Smoothie
Smoothies are perhaps one of the easiest ways to get in all of the nutritional value from healthy foods with minimum effort and fuss. All that is required to make this berry smoothie is a blender (electronic or handheld) and your ingredients. Just throw some blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, milk or yoghurt of your choice, some honey, and ice blocks together and blend! This superfood smoothie will be ready in under 5 minutes and you can freeze any leftovers you have too. Throw in some healthy seeds for some added nutrition and crunchy texture. If you are finding that your smoothie is a bit too runny, add half a banana to thicken it up.
3. Granola, Yoghurt and Fruit Bowl
This breakfast is a fun one due to its look and the many variations you can make with many different ingredients. Pop some granola into a bowl, along with some plain or Greek yoghurt, whatever fruit you are craving such as blueberries, strawberries and bananas, sprinkle with cinnamon and a drizzle of honey and enjoy! It is that easy. You can even add some dried fruit such as raisins or cashew nuts to top it off and give it some added texture.
4. Egg, Ham and Cheese Cups
This healthy breakfast is perfect for when you are craving a classic egg and toast dish in the morning. Think of your regular omelette meets your classic ham and cheese quiche– these egg, ham and cheese cups fulfil all your savoury breakfast needs all in one compact muffin cup! You can even add more ingredients if you would like such as sausages, mushrooms, or even some spinach. These cups are also quite simple to make- combine whisked egg with grated cheddar cheese, diced ham and season. This mixture can be made the night before and poured into greased muffin tins in the morning, and then baked in the oven for about 20 minutes.
5. Overnight Oats
Of all the quick breakfasts on the list, overnight oats have got to be the most sophisticated. This breakfast does require some preparation the night before (hence the name ‘overnight’ oats), but it is well worth it. Overnight oats are made from rolled oats that are mixed with a milk of your choice (almond milk is a healthy substitute to regular dairy milk), and a sweetener of your choice, be it honey or agave nectar. This mixture rests in the fridge overnight where the oats absorb some of the liquid from the milk and becomes creamy and chewy, perfect for the next morning. Top the overnight oats with whatever fruit and seeds you would like such as chia seeds.
These breakfasts are convenient, super delicious and packed with nutrients to leave you feeling energized for your day. While these dishes are still extremely tasty, it is important to have a balanced diet, which means that one should still indulge in those decadent pancakes or flapjacks as a weekend treat- something to look forward to at the end of a busy week!
