- Fifth consecutive year that the grand prize of the crucial fundraising initiative in aid of vulnerable South Africans is sponsored by Kia
- More than 200,000 children helped by the Beeld Children’s Fund since its inception in 1977
15 December 2022 – Kia South Africa and the Beeld Children’s Fund, in partnership with Beeld newspaper and radio station Radiosondergrense (RSG 100-104fm), this week handed over a brand-new Kia Picanto 1.0 START – the grand prize in the Fund’s annual fundraising raffle – to Liza Hand from Mokopane, the lucky winner in this year’s raffle. It is the fifth consecutive year that Kia provides the grand prize vehicle for the fundraising raffle, and the 26th year of the raffle.
“Over the past five years of partnership with the Beeld Children’s Fund, Kia has consistently expressed its belief that the future of our beautiful country lies in the hands of our children,” comments Christo Valentyn, Head of Marketing for Kia South Africa. “As a proudly South African company, we’re also part of a global brand that believes that movement inspires ideas. Through our partnership with the Beeld Children’s Fund, we’re allowed to contribute in creating a space in the lives of vulnerable children where they can flourish, find hope and inspiration, indulge ideas and ultimately, provide meaningful opportunities to succeed.”
The Beeld Children’s Fund was founded in 1977 and strives to assist children in need by focusing on programmes that aid the development of body, soul and spirit. It is a registered Non-Profit Organisation and Public Benefit Organisation. Annually, the Fund supports more than 6,500 children through a variety of programs that allows it to assist traumatised children in obtaining therapy, and for children from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend kindergartens and pre-schools. It also allows the fund to help homeless youth to obtain care and accommodation, and to complete their schooling.
Apart from the grand prize of a Kia Picanto START, there were also a number of other bonus prizes on offer this year, all by simply donating R30 to the Beeld Children’s Fund. In 2022, the Fund received donations to the value of R850,860, and out of the total entries in the raffle – 28,362 – it was Liza Hand, a homemaker and entrepreneur from Mokopane in Limpopo, that ended up winning the Kia Picanto.
The official handover ceremony, held at Kia’s dealership in Randburg, Johannesburg, was attended by representatives from the Beeld Children’s Fund, Kia, Beeld newspaper and radio partner RSG along with winner, Liza Hand, and her family. It was a sweet surprise for Ms Hand, who does not have her own car at the moment. “I still need to pinch myself that I really won the Kia Picanto and I am so grateful,” she commented at the official handover ceremony.
To show her gratitude, she immediately started raising even more funds for the Beeld Children’s Fund after being informed of her win, and at the official handover proceeded to donate another R10,000 to the Fund, bringing the organisation one big step forward to its goal of raising R3 million by March 2023.
“The Beeld Children’s Fund extends it heartfelt thanks to all of our sponsors for their generous support, as well as each and every person who participated in the raffle this year,” comments Adrie van Staden, Executive Officer of the Beeld Children’s Fund. “The money raised this year will ensure that thousands of children’s potential can be developed, giving them hope for a better and brighter future.”
Ms Hand’s prize vehicle will be delivered to her in person by Muneer Noormohamed and his team from Kia Mokopane.
