Even before the first vehicles have been delivered to customers in Europe, the all-new fully electric Jeep® Avenger has attracted more media recognition by being named Best Family SUV in the 2023 Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) awards.
The compact B-SUV was shortlisted with 12 other family SUVs in the 13th edition of the awards, with the winner being decided by an international panel of jurors from 45 countries. The result was announced today.
Announcing the award, WWCOTY Executive President Marta García said: “The Jeep Avenger is a worthy winner in its category. On the one hand, it inherits all the legend of the Jeep brand, but at the same time it is completely updated with its 100 percent electric mechanics. It is a commitment to the future that customers will appreciate.”
Women’s World Car of the Year is the only car awards group in the world comprised exclusively of women motoring journalists. Vehicles in the WWCOTY awards are judged for excellence in their segments. Aspects such as safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, benefits and environmental footprint are taken into account by jurors when casting their votes. This year, the jurors’ work has been marked by an industry evolution towards more efficient and sustainable models. The Avenger impressed judges with its “successful design, excellent off-road capability”, and low environmental footprint.
“We’re delighted and honored that this international jury of motoring journalists has chosen the first-ever all electric Jeep SUV as the winner of this important award,” said Christian Meunier, Jeep brand CEO. “I’d like to thank the jurors for their recognition. The Jeep Avenger plays a key role in our global electrification strategy, as the brand moves towards becoming the world leader in zero-emission SUVs.”
The new Avenger is a compact SUV which, at just four meters in length, is positioned in the rapidly growing B-SUV the second biggest European segment in terms of volume. Aimed at active people who are looking for an SUV with compact dimensions, the Jeep Avenger offers plenty of room and storage possibilites. Designed and built as a Jeep vehicle from day one, the Avenger packs the Jeep DNA into a compact SUV with a unique combination of capability, style, functionality, and technology.
With an electric fuel range of up to 400 km in the WLTP cycle and more than 550 km in the city. A new electric powertrain combines a unique 400-volt electric motor with 115 kilowatts and 260 Nm of maximum torque and a new 54 kWh battery.
The introduction of the Jeep Avenger in Europe marks the beginning of the next phase of the electrification of the Jeep brand – the BEV wave – that will see four fully-electric vehicles hit the market by 2025. By the end of 2030, the Jeep brand’s European sales will be 100% pure electric.
The Jeep Avenger, revealed at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, has already been acclaimed by both customers and industry experts. In January, the Avenger was named European Car of the Year 2023. More than 12,000 units have been sold since the opening of orders for the 1st Edition on Dec 1, 2022 and then the full lineup on Jan 11th, 2023.
Women’s World Car of the Year
Women’s World Car of the Year is the only car awards group in the world comprised exclusively of women motoring journalists. It was created by New Zealand motoring journalist, Sandy Myhre, in 2009. She is currently Honorary President while Marta García is Executive President.
This unique award aims to recognize the best cars of the year and to give a voice to women in the automotive world. The voting criteria are based on the same principles that guide any driver when choosing a car. The jurors do not select a ‘woman’s car’ because cars are not gender specific. Aspects such as safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, benefits, and environmental footprint, among others, are considered when casting the votes.
