- FIAT’s exclusively electric powered city car prevails over 18 conventionally powered competitors.
The winning streak of the electric New 500 continues in the new year. The model has now won two awards in the “Best Cars 2023” competition. The readers of the trade journal “auto motor und sport” voted the New 500 into first place, both in the overall ranking and in the import ranking for Mini Cars. In this competition category, 19 current vehicle models from German and international manufacturers were put to the vote.
“Winning twice in the prestigious AMUS awards makes us extremely proud. Germany is the most important market for the electric 500 and these two accolades celebrate the remarkable success of our icon. It’s a testament to the appreciation the German public has for the model, voting it not only as best imported city car, but putting it on top also in the overall ranking, where it went up against and beat its domestic competitors. Both these prizes show in an impressive way that FIAT’s electrification strategy is taking hold. I would like to thank the German car fans for the great trust they have placed in the New 500”, said Gaetano Thorel, Head of FIAT & Abarth Enlarged Europe, at the award ceremony in Stuttgart.
The New 500 has won 39 international awards so far and its success is also confirmed by the commercial results: since its launch in 2020, it has been chosen by almost 120,000 customers worldwide. Last year New 500 was the third most sold EV in the 10 major European markets and the best-selling BEV of Stellantis Group in Europe, placing itself first in Italy, second in Spain and third in Germany.
