The destination for the 72nd Miss Universe competition has been revealed to be none other than El Salvador.
Miss Universe hosting country revealed
President Nayib Bukele made the announcement during the 71st Miss Universe finals earlier this month.
He said, “El Salvador is a country that is full of beauty. We have the best surfing beaches in the world, magnificent volcanoes, and exquisite coffee and we have now become the safest country in Latin America. I would like to thank the Miss Universe Organization for joining us in this historic process. El Salvador is changing and we want you to come and see it for yourselves.”
This will be the country’s second time hosting the pageant since 1975.
Earlier this month, the 71st beauty pageant finals were held in New Orleans. The new reigning contestant was officially crowned on the 14th of January. The event was hosted by Jeannie Mai and Olivia Culpo alongside Catriona Gray and Zuri Hall as backstage commentators.
The night was also topped off with performances by Tank, Yolanda Adams, Amanda Shaw, and the Bangas to name a few.
After the final ceremony, India’s Harnaaz Sandhu handed over the new Force for Good crown to United States’ R’Bonney Gabriel.
The competing contestants were:
- Venezuela – Amanda Dudamel
- USA – R’Bonney Gabriel
- Puerto Rico – Ashley Cariño
- Curacao – Gabriëla Dos Santos
- Dominican Republic – Andreína Martínez
