Single’s Day is exactly what it says and has been a celebration by many singletons over the years.
Why do we celebrate Single’s Day?
Thus far, Single’s Day has been dubbed a day that single people can spoil themselves by getting discounts on a variety of products. This day is mostly celebrated in China and the US more than any other region.
Now, Single’s Day was first started by a group of single Chinese students who celebrated this day to recognize the fact that they do not have a partner as shared by the Independent.
However, the celebration didn’t stop there. As the group of students used this opportunity to create events for those without partners. And to meet new people during Single’s Day.
As of late, many retailers have sought to take advantage of this day. And use it as a way of making money of course. On Single’s Day, individuals get to purchase items at a discounted price. Which can often last from the beginning of November until the 11th of November.
Retailers make use of the opportunity
This day of this holiday is also significant in the fact that it is celebrated on the 11th of November. Quick fact, it is celebrated on this day as the month and the day of the month is 11. These numbers are said to represent singles by the number one.
While Single’s Day is often similar to days like Cyber Monday or Black Friday, China is reported to have made huge sales during this time. In 2020, popular retailer Alibaba made 72 billion in profit.
However, this year, shoppers are being more vigilant in what they buy. As the world has endured a pandemic of at least three years. To date, at least 34 percent of people reportedly plan to spend their money a bit more wisely as a result of the unpredictable nature of the pandemic since 2020.
This means that sales have plummeted a little this year compared to 2021 when shoppers would spend billions on things they might not even need.
