There is so much to consider during major sale events such as the days surrounding Black Friday. With an ocean of information to wade through, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and indecisive. And although it is true that many amazing items sell for unbelievable prices, one thing is for sure, not everything is a guaranteed deal. You may only have the budget for one or two desired items. Yet everything seems so well priced, making it tricky to choose what to buy and what not to buy during Black Friday sales. In order to help you narrow that list down, here are a few items that are seriously unlikely to be selling at particularly low prices. Despite what the advertising may say.
Diamonds
Diamonds purchases are something to seriously consider. Even without the offer of major discounts, such as during Black Friday, diamond buying can be a complicated process. With many aspects such as cut, colour and clarity to take into consideration. So unless you have a trained eye with the knowledge, any impulse diamond purchases are very unlikely to work in your favour.
To add to this, diamonds are subject to an international pricing standard. Which is generally updated on a monthly basis and calculated according to things such as availability and demand. So during times such as the months before Christmas, when demand and sales of diamonds increases, you are likely to pay more for a stone than at another time of year. So, my advice is to rather not buy that important stone over a Black Friday sale.
Precious Metals
High-end precious metals, such as gold, platinum and palladium, are very unlikely to be on any real specials during Black Friday. Like diamonds, the general pricing of these items is dictated by an international standard. Plus, in the instance of manufacturing jewelers, sellers are able to melt and reuse the metal from any old stock that may be deemed undesirable. So, unless the item is very light in metal, it doesn’t make sense for them to sell it at a heavily discounted price. As a side note, discounted or not, I would advise against purchasing high-end jewellery that is very light in metal. Trying to save on metal weight is likely to compromise the item’s structural integrity.
Electronics
Electronics are one of the best sellers over Black Friday sales, however, they are another item I would not buy over Black Friday. Merchandise, such as TVs, are often either from unknown and potentially unreliable brands. Or they may be one of these lower-end models created by known brands with the purpose of fitting into a Black Friday price margin. In this instance, you are not scoring a major deal, you are getting what you pay for.
Sound equipment is another great example. It is expensive stuff, that is complicated and expensive to manufacture. And any items sold at unreasonably low prices are more likely to be defective or on their way to becoming redundant. Electronics in general are an expensive investment. And as with anything of a higher price range, the risk is higher. I’d say rather safe than sorry.
High-End Cameras
Cameras companies are generally making new models on an annual basis. And these are usually released at the beginning of a new year. Meaning that stores are more likely to increase the discounts on previous models after the new year. So try not to spend all your hard-earned money on buying a camera over Black Friday. You may find it selling at a better price in January.
Furniture and Home Renovation
Before the Christmas holidays hit, many people start looking at renovating and making pretty within their homes. Whether it is for family and friends visits. Or because they may be renting out holiday spaces over the festive season. However, the best deals on home renovation goodies are generally late in December or early in January. Firstly, because fewer people are renovating during this time. And secondly, because at the start of the year, manufacturers introduce many new designs and models. So the older stock is pushed out at better prices. Plus, I like to add the question of “do you really need it?”, because in the case of furniture, it is often unnecessary.
