Since load-shedding has been normalized and will be our reality in the years ahead, looking for ways to work around it is essential to not lose our minds in the consistent powercuts we have and will endure.
While generators and power banks are the obvious go-to when thinking about load-shedding, there are other tools that can help us get through the dark times – Pun intended.
Appliances to have during load-shedding
Over the past few years, manufacturers have become a bit more creative When it comes to saving energy and creating gadgets. That will allow us to continue our daily tasks and even maintain our sensitive appliances.
In recent years, DEFY has created at least two types of appliances. That are able to use solar energy when the electricity is cut. Let’s face it, we’ve all had to let go of food that has gone bad. As a result of load-shedding and there are ways to prevent this from happening!
So, DEFY currently has deep freezer and fridge appliances that won’t suffer during power outages. The appliances are, of course, part of the Solar Hybrid range. These appliances work with solar energy and will allow you to use at least 44 percent less electricity. Which could save you on your electricity bill.
Generators
Now, if you’re looking to have most of your essential appliances, your best option is to have a generator. In this way, you can still use your devices, and have your fridge and TVs working. Without the risk of them getting damaged when blackouts occur.
Generators can be quite costly but there are different options to suit your needs. Depending on what you would like to have working during load-shedding of course. If all you need is your electronic equipment, a 2000-watt generator will do the job for you. However, if you would like your geyser to function during a power outage, then a 6000-watt generator will do.
Power Bank
Powerbanks are the obvious go-to when load-shedding isn’t implemented through the fact that your device can remain charged as the percentages drop over time. This is particularly handy when there is no other way to keep your device charged.
Gas Stove
Gas stoves can be powered by diesel and petrol and for obvious reasons are the best choice. Given the time we’re living in right now. When opting to have this, you won’t have to postpone dinner or wait to have a bit of coffee when you want it most.
Rechargeable load-shedding bulbs and lights
As power outages are a norm, load-shedding bulbs have become all the more popular and so have rechargeable and portable lights. These gadgets are available for purchase on Takelot and other retailers.
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
One of the most convenient ways to continue using the internet or continue using your computer is through investing in a UPS. There are different one of course, but if you would only like your internet connection to remain running then you can get one for your wifi router. However, there are UPS devices that can keep other devices on at the same time.

For us, this means being without electricity. While these are but a few ways to get through power cuts, many individuals have other creative means of enduring dark times.
