To date, South Africans have been exercising their freedom after many years of democracy. While Nelson Mandela has played a pivotal role in the freedom South Africans now experience, other figures such as Steve Biko have also made their mark on where the country stands today.
In the past, South Africans of color have struggled with having to endure school subjects. Such as Afrikaans – which they didn’t understand. Most importantly, having access to opportunities they’ve had a right to.
While the country still has a long way to go in democracy, public figures like Steve Biko cannot be forgotten. As his teachings and resilience in fighting for the freedom of South Africans have not been in vain.

In a quote well-known to many Steve Biko once noted that “It is better to die for an idea that will live than to live for an idea that will die.” It is with this that South Africans all over have continued to celebrate his life.
