Right now, Reuters reports that NyQuil is a dangerous substance when its form is changed. This is generally your normal over-the-counter cough or cold medicine which does not require a prescription.
As of late, a recent TikTok challenge dubbed the NyQuil Chicken challenge currently encourages social media users to cook their chicken in cough medicine. To date, the FDA has warned that this trend can cause damage to your lungs and has other health dangers as well.
Apart from the NyQuil challenge, the Benadryl challenge had previously become very popular among young individuals who are always willing to try out a new trend. As young people still need to undergo more brain development, they are more susceptible to the dangers of these challenges.
The FDA urges parents to educate their children on dangers
In a message to the public, the FDA shared that parents should sit down with their children and speak about the consequences of using things such as medicine in the challenges.
“Sit down with your children and discuss the dangers of misusing drugs and how social media trends can lead to real, sometimes irreversible, damage,” the FDA said. “Remind your children that overdoses can occur with OTC drugs as well as with prescription drugs.”
Previously, many youn people have fallen victim to trying challenges like the Benadryl challenge. Which encourages viewers to drink up large amounts of medicine to bring about hallucination.
In many cases, young individuals have landed up in hospitals as a result of the challenge, while others have died from it. Right now, there is an urgency to stop trying out dangerous TikTok trends such as the Benadryl challenge and the NyQuil challenge.
