Right now, readers calling out Colleen Hoover for writing about a character who laughed about her son’s balls. Readers are now calling the writer toxic for including things such as this.
What’s more, is that Colleen Hoover has now been claimed by readers as the Jane Austen of the current generation. This did not sit well with Jane Austen’s stans as they feel the two do not have similarities.
Readers express their frustrations
Right now, readers have come to realize that many of Hoover’s male characters are damaged and troubled men. In some cases, the women have also portrayed behavior that is toxic.
Some examples include when a character says, “when he was wiping that cow s**t on me, it was quite possibly the most turned-on I have ever been.”
However, regardless of all the toxic patterns that may be visible, something that readers failed to come across is that the characters allow or prompt important discussions in society.
So far, Colleen Hoover is best known for her dry wit or humor which some readers may have found disturbing. Quite frankly, booktok is in a frenzy after several readers recommended Colleen Hoover.
Now, some book lovers are not joining the Hoover train. But, everyone is entitled to their opinion which may include never touching a Colleen Hoover book again.
