Chris Rock and Will Smith are yet to reconcile after the infamous Oscars slap this past March. Recently, the comedian spoke about turning down opportunities as a result thereof.
Comedian declines to host the 2023 Oscars
At a comedy show this past weekend in Arizona, Chris Rock shared that he was offered to host the Oscars in 2023 again. However, the comedian shared that he turned down the offer and many others after the event took place.
This past March, many celebrities shared their take on the event and expressed that comedians generally plan the jokes ahead of time. Further noting that it is impossible for Will Smith not to know about the jokes beforehand.
In his response to the offer at the show and compared it to returning to a murder scene. The comedian previously poked fun at the slap during another comedy set before.
During his comedy set, Chris Rock noted that hosting the Oscars in 2023 is similar to asking Nicole Brown Simpson “to go back to the restaurant” where her mother left a pair of glasses the night of her death.
Chris Rock refuses to talk to Will Smith
Previously, Will Smith shared a public apology to Chris Rock and his family via a video he shared on his Instagram and Youtube channels. The actor revealed that he reached out to Chris Rock but the comedian was not ready to speak to him yet.
At the time, Will Smith revealed “I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out,” Smith said. “So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

To date, Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith shared a statement about the events that took place at the Oscars. The actress shared that she” hopes the two men will reconcile” and that it is a time for healing.
Following her statement, Jada received extensive criticism for saying what she did as celebrities such as Vivica A Fox noted that Jada took no responsibility for causing her husband to walk up the stage.
