Enjoy this fresh and colourful salad with about almost anything! This Chakalaka House Salad comes from a South African inspired restaurant in London in the UK, and certainly does our cuisine proud.
What is a Chakalaka House Salad?
While chakalaka is a traditional South African relish made from vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, peppers, and beans, this Chakalaka House Salad gets its name from a South African inspired restaurant in London, named Chakalaka. The salad is full of flavour and different textures, and is seasoned with garlic, coriander, red chili and salt and pepper. The salad has a spiciness and a bit of a kick too from the red chili, but you can leave this out if you don’t do spicy or heat in food.
Loaded with Veg
Not only does this salad consist of many highly nutritional ingredients such as tomatoes, cucumber, and avocado, but it is also loaded with butternut. Butternut is considered an extremely healthy vegetable due to its abundance in antioxidants and vitamins. Butternut contains a high amount of vitamin a, containing about 457% of an adults Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) per 250 grams, and vitamin c, containing about 52% of an adults Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) per 205 grams. Butternut also contains magnesium and potassium, and is low in calories. The avocado in the salad is also a great source of healthy fats.
Serve this salad with any roast meat of your choice to lighten up the meal and add some nutritional value to it. It will be the perfect versatile side to accompany any dish you would like!
