Hlomla Dandala will no longer be part of The River family.
Hlomla Dandala talks about exciting The River
In an interview with NewzRoom Africa, Hlomla Dandala shared his reason for leaving The River after five seasons. The actor noted his reason for leaving is to progress in his career as an actor.
“Generally, what tends to happen, with any career, if you stay in any character for long enough, it’s very difficult to then pivot away from it or to be perceived in any other way,”
Before things got too difficult, Hlomla Dandala decided that he would need to move on to other roles. As he found it difficult to stay in a role that he felt he had outgrown.
“If you’ve established yourself as a leading man and you play something that establishes you as being quite weaker and kowtowing and the fool, if you don’t get out of that fast enough, it gets harder and harder.”
Previously, the producers of the show shared that Hlomla Dandala will be leaving the show. Two other actors will also be leaving The River in season five of the show.
Moving onto new things
The press release stated that the three actors will be pursuing “new ventures” and that “some storylines have reached an end”.
Thus far, Hlomla Dandala played the role of Zweli Dikana who is a police commissioner. The character is married to the ruthless and murderous Lindiwe Dlamini Dikana. Her character is expected to have a new love interest in season 6 next year.
So far, Zweli Dikana is often oblivious to the actions of his wife. As he always finds out about her sinister plans after it had already been done.
The director of local entertainment for M-Net Shirley Adonis shared a few words for the departing actors.
“We would like to thank Hlomla, Lawrence, and Tango for their priceless contributions to the show, as well as the incredible work that went into giving their characters life,”
