Violent Night is like many other Christmas films that aren’t traditionally soppy but action-packed.
This comedy and action film, Violent Night centers on a wealthy family that ends up being targeted by a group of mercenaries.
On his usual gifting journey, Santa Clause comes in to save the day by fighting off the mercenaries who are on his naughty list. Funny enough, the question “is Santa real?” pops up during a discussion by the group of thieves. Obviously, the lead thief throws out this thought. The film takes on a similar approach to Home Alone if you will.
The synopsis of the film reads, “When a team of mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage, the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus (David Harbour, Black Widow, Stranger Things series) is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.”
Violent Night | Official trailer
While Violent Night does show some action-packed scenes, the film isn’t entirely based on blood spattering. If you’re a fan of Stranger Things, you would know the aesthetic David Harbor brings to serious situations. Who better to play Santa than him?
A sweet aspect of the film will be the little girl named Crudy Lightstone. Just hours before Christmas, her parents decided that she can have one gift. That is, a hotline to speak to Santa Clause himself.
However, things take a turn when a group of thieves invades the Lightstone home in search of the 300 million dollars they have in their safe.
From there onward, the Christmas celebration turns into a Violent Night. As Santa arrives just in time to save the family from any harm done to them.
Where to watch
Since Violent Night was just released in the cinema, the film currently isn’t available on many streaming platforms at the time of writing this article. However, it is available to rent on Amazon Prime if you cannot make it to the cinemas this holiday.
Unfortunately, Violent Night will not be available to watch on Netflix as it is a film by Universal Pictures. The film is currently produced by the filmmakers of Bullet Train, Atomic Bomb, and John Wick.
