Taylor Swift has officially become the newest queen of the Billboard Country Albums chart. She is now the only female artist that had her album at no 1. for 99 weeks.
And this occasion of course meant that Shania Twain, who held the previous record with 97 weeks at the top, had to “pass the baton”.
Shania Twain congratulates Talyor Swift
The 56-year-old country icon took to Twitter to congratulate Swift once the news broke. And, fittingly so, she quoted one of her own songs.
“Let’s Go Girls!!!! Proud of you @taylorswift13. Historical records are meant to be made and then broken. The baton is meant to be passed on to new generations. Unstoppable young female country artists are [fire emoji] in spite of the hurdles.β
Taylor and Shania have been friends for a couple of years now and Taylor often refers to Shania as a huge musical influence in her life and work.
This was also not the first time Shania praises Taylor for her transition from country to pop. And in 2014 she commented on Taylor’s fifth studio album 1989.
“I think that everybody should just follow their heart and do their artistic best, and just enjoy their creativity,” she told ET Canada in 2014.

And in a recent TikTok, Taylor followed the “mamma said it was okay” trend and questioned the statement “country girls can’t go pop”. She captioned the video with, “Learned from the best” – of course referring to Shania Twain herself who is known for her crossover hits.
