Squid Game is Netflix’s most-watched show and pulled in a staggering 1.65 billion hours of viewing in the first 28 days after it premiered. And with season 1 ending on quite a cliff-hanger, it can be assured that all viewers will surely return for season 2.
In a recent, interview, Lee Jung-jae, who plays the main character, Seong Gi-hun, opened up about what the plans for his character entail.
Lee mainly speaks about his character’s contrasting sides – the more fun and silly part and the serious part. And now that Gi-hun feels obligated to rescue the next group to partake in Squid Game, Lee feels that he will become more of a determined character.
“Because Gi-hun became more serious because he has to rescue these people, I’m thinking that he would become a more determined character. But if he’s just too determined, that could be a little bit boring. So I’m guessing the fun parts of Gi-hun will also come out in the next season.”
Lee also reacts to a recent red carpet incident
During a recent press conference for the hit Netflix show in the US, a reporter asked the following question to Lee:
“I’m sure you can’t leave the house anymore without people recognizing you. What has been the biggest life change for you since the series came out?”
The reporter has ever since received tons of backlash for the questions and has been called “ignorant”. Lee has already been a giant star in Korea for years and the fact that she only focused on fame in the US is what she is being criticized for.
However, Lee showed his humble side and answered the question by saying that, especially now in the US, it is a shock for him how many people are recognizing him.
And when asked about the red carpet incident, the Korean star stated that he “wasn’t offended at all“.
“They just didn’t have the opportunity to see a Korean movie, see a Korean TV series. I don’t think it’s something that we should criticize her for. And just the fact that a lot of people haven’t watched Korean TV series prior to Squid Game, it’s just another push for us to work harder so that we can have the next Squid Game. So I would never say, ‘Why don’t you know that I have been a star all along?’”
For now, there is still no definitive date for the season 2 premiere of the show, however, even with the most optimistic timeline, it would probably only arrive in 2023.
