Rapper Emtee speaks on mental health
In a recent post to Twitter, Emtee expressed to his followers that they shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help when they need it. The rapper particularly targeted his male supporters who often hide behind the stigma of being a ‘man’.
The post read, “Young kings do not be afraid. It’s OK not to be OK. Cry out for help if you have to. F**k ukuthi abantu bazothini,”
While his intentions were pure, others were quick to villainize the rapper and judge him for playing the victim. However, Emtee quickly responded to those who had something negative to say about the positivity he was putting out.
“Why every time I try share my life experiences and pain. Ma’f**kas is always ready to say I’m playing ‘victim’ or looking for pity. Ninjalo ke. Nicimba iLife yi Instagram. Everything must be top notch and perfect.”
His plea for seeking out help comes as the entertainment industry has lost a few of its public figures to suicide. Most popularly rapper Riky Rick who previously committed suicide. The rapper reportedly left a note to his wife explaining this decision and the love he has for her and his family.
As many may know, Emtee previously had an unhealthy relationship with alcohol and previously talked about his addiction to Lean. According to Times Live, this drink is made up of cough syrup, fruits, and sweets.
In an earlier interview with Da L.E.S, public figure Sizwe Dlhomo shared some perspectives on Emtee. He shared that he wishes someone would help the rapper as he has some demons to fight.
He shared, “I wish somebody could help Emtee to realize the greatness that is in him, but it also requires some work on his side because he’s got demons that he needs to defeat, so that’s the first thing,”
