Morgan Freeman starts the World Cup with a speech
For the opening ceremony at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Morgan Freeman made a surprise appearance and started off the festivities with a moving speech on unity.
The actor shared, “From Qatar, from the Arab world, I welcome everyone to this year’s World Cup. We have worked so hard to make this one of the most successful events in the world. And we are finally here, in good grace.”
Presently, the appearance of Morgan Freeman comes after the star consistently sought to have the world cup in any other region but Qatar. This is amid claims of bribery and fraud that have taken place.
However, Morgan Freeman and others ultimately lost their battle with their aims to have the World Cup somewhere else. As Qatar ultimately won the case in the end.
Opening ceremonies and performances
In the opening speech, Morgan Freeman seemed to be reiterating his words from a recording. As the actor appeared to be lip-syncing during his speech this past Sunday.
Among some of the familiar faces at the Qatar World Cup, this Sunday included K-pop singer Jungkook. The singer recently made history as the first Korean to perform at the World Cup this year as well as ever!
The earlier ceremony marked the beginning of the World Cup proceedings as Qatar and Ecuador proceeded to go against each other after the official ceremony this past Sunday. The viewing slot also made it available to fans watching all over at times convenient to their time zone.
Thus far, Qatar is the first Arabian country to host the World Cup Tournament. It will also be the second time the World Cup is held on Asian soil which comes after it was held in South Korea and Japan in 2002.
