Gangsta Boo first started rapping in her early teens. She was later part of the group called Three 6 Mafia founded by Juicy J, DJ Paul, and Lord Famous.
Rapper Gangsta Boo dies on New Years Day
According to countless news outlets, Gangsta Boo was found unresponsive in her home on Sunday, the first of January. The rapper was oly 43-years-old when she died. No cause of death has been disclosed.
Starting her career, Lola, formally known as Lola Mitchell first formed part of the group in 1991. She featured on the group’s first studio album titled, Mystic Stylez along with many other rappers.
In 2002, Gangsta Boo decided to break away from the group to focus on her solo career. She released her first solo project titled Enquiring Minds and would later release albums such as Cand, Diamonds, and Pills, as well as the Memphis Queen is Back.
While Mitchell rose to fame through Three 6 Mafia, the rapper noted how many people didn’t know that she even formed part of the group.
Remembering the Memphis artist
In an interview, she shared, “Being in Three 6 Mafia did give me a lot of confidence. I started noticing that not only am I hot, but that I’m talented… But you’d be surprised at how many motherfuckers don’t know that I was in Three 6 Mafia.”
To date, Gangsta Boo is known for celebrating her sexuality like rappers Eve, Lil Kim, and rapper Trina. Being from Memphis, Lola set a blueprint for those who came after her.
Rapper Glorilla, who is also from Memphis, fondly remembered the way Gangsta Boo supported her through her career as a start-up artist. Taking to social media, she wrote of the way the rapper always stood by her and other artists.
She wrote, “She always supported me and the girls way back before we blew up”.
Juicy J and DJ Paul also took to social media to share their tributes to the rapper. Juicy J shared a photo of himself and Gangsta Boo, captioned with a broken heart emoji. While DJ Paul simply shared a photo of Lola Djing.
