Afro-pop singer Lerato “Lira” Molapo is currently recovering in South Africa after suffering from a stroke while travelling in Germany for work. The 44-year-old’s family took to social media to update the public on her health.
Lira’s speech is impacted
On Tuesday 19 April, a statement was released via Lira’s Instagram page, explaining her current health circumstance.
According to her family, Lira travelled to Germany for a performance and sadly suffered a stroke whilst still in the country. And as a result, the singer’s ability to communicate has been affected.
“[Her] ability to communicate, in particular, her speech, has been impacted,”
the post caption read.
No performances for the short term
The statement further explained that Lira is safely back home in South Africa and undergoing medical treatment.
And according to her medical team, patience will definitely be needed as the singer embarks on her journey to recovery. And so, all performances have been cancelled until Lira’s full recovery.
Her family added that Lira was still in good spirits and is hopeful for a full recovery.
“[Lira] is in good spirits and is surrounded by her loving family and close friends as she journey towards a full recovery.”
And a close friend of Lira has also commented that she is recovering well and have been for a while.
“She left Germany and has been recovering well. We did not want to share the information too early, so we can give her time to recover.
“She is doing well and has cancelled her concerts. Thank God.”
Mzansi prays for Lira
Since the news broke of the Afro-pop’s stroke, fans and friends have been sending their thoughts and prayers to the singer.
Fellow industry member, broadcaster Sptich Nzawumbi also took to his Twitter and challenged his followers to #PrayForLira.
