Kirstie Alley died from cancer
In a statement released to the public, her children shared that their mother had passed on. The statement revealed Kirstie Alley had died from cancer. However, it was “only recently discovered”.
The statement read, “We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce, and loving mother has passed away, ”
It continued, “She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead,”
Career Timeline
Kirstie Alley is best known for her role in the comedy series Cheers. The popular series ran until 1993. Alley appeared in at least 147 episodes after she joined the series at the peak of its popularity. She made her film debut in the film Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan and would later appear in Drop Dead Gorgeous and other titles.
It is unclear what kind of cancer the actress had. However, they did reveal they found out in a short period of time.
Taking to Instagram, John Travolta shared his respects for the late actress. The pair worked together on the series called Look Who’s Talking early on in their careers.
He wrote, “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.”
In 1993, Kirstie Alley won an Emmy Award for her role in the film David’s Mother for best lead actress. Her Emmy for the film would be the second in her career. The actress earned her first Emmy for her role as a pub manager in the popular series Cheers.
Alley’s death comes after a host of celebrities have passed on in the past year.
