Justin Bieber is no stranger to the fashion world and has collaborated with H&M a few times before. Here’s what went wrong this time.
H&M and Justin Bieber clash on designs
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Justin Bieber expressed to his fans that the t-shirts and hoodies sold by H&M were not approved by him.
He wrote, “I didn’t approve any of the merch collection that they put up at H&M… all without my permission and approval. SMH I wouldn’t buy it if I were you.”
Further expressing his distaste for the situation, Bieber added that the merchandise recently sold by H&M was “trash”, urging his supporters again to not buy the items put up in-store and online.
Since calling the retailer out, H&M has removed the clothing line from their stores as well as online stores. But, they also had some words for the singer who claimed that the retailer didn’t seek approval from him.
They shared, “As with all other licensed products and partnerships, H&M followed proper approval procedures.”
Justin Bieber had previously collaborated with the likes of H&M and Forever 21. The merchandise sold was previously a part of his Purpose tour.
Singer sells his music rights
The merchandise recently sold by H&M included t-shirts and hoodies with an animated version of the singer’s face on them. Some of the other clothing items included lyrics from his recent single Ghost.
While Justin Bieber collaborates with clothing stores all the time, the singer has made a Trademark of his own called Drew House. The clothing label has been named after his second name.
Among the H&M controversy, Justin Bieber has also caused a stir among fans as a result of selling his music rights. The singer is reportedly selling his music catalog for a total of 200 million dollars.
This will make Justin Bieber the youngest artist to sell his music rights. Generally, artists over the age of 60 embar on taking a step like this as sales begin to drop in the later stages of their careers.
His decision comes after the singer had to cancel the remainder of his world tour. Justin Bieber has struggled with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome which paralyzed half of his face. It, therefore, hindered his ability to perform on stage.
