Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has issued a public apology to his ex, singer Kelly Khumalo. The apology comes after he made claims that the singer uses “muti”.
Jub Jub’s struggle with his past partners
In December 2021, the Uyajola 99 presenter was featured on Podcast and Chill with MacG where he claimed that his former partner used “muti“.
He even said that the reason why Amanda du Pont left him was because of Khumalo’s muti. Du Pont, however, immediately spoke out and accused the media personality of “spreading lies”.
And in an Instagram post, she claims that he “raped and physically abused” her throughout the two-year relationship. She added that the reason she left was that he tried to kill her.
“My side – I was raped and physically abused by Jub Jub. Only thing I did wrong was keep quiet. That ends here. GBV is absolutely unacceptable!!
“I will not be publicly ridiculed by a criminal! Rape is not smashing!! Time we deal with this demon,” she said.
An ultimatum was given – either apologise or don’t return
After the podcast aired, Moja Love suspended Maarohanye as the host of Uyajola 9/9. And the company’s CEO, Aubrey Tau, gave the presenter an ultimatum – either he apologises to Kelly Khumalo for publically insinuating that she uses “muti, or he doesn’t return to the show.
Clearly, the ultimatum worked as the presenter issued an official apology on Thursday, 10 February.
“I am writing this letter to accept and own up to my mistakes. I Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye would like to take this moment to apologise to the mother of my son Kelly Khumalo for any distress, or hurt (I) may have caused her following not only the aftermath of my interview on ‘Podcast and Chill with MacG’ but also any other public opinion.”
“Kelly I am really sorry, I really did not mean for things to get here between you and I. My comments were taken out of context however it still doesn’t make it right.”
The presenter ended the apology statement by apologising to all South African women if he caused any “distress, disappointment or hurt”. He further added that he was working on himself as a person and is even attending “sensitivity classes” for his use of language.
