Elliot Page came out as transgender in December 2020 and never looked back. And now the actor plans on writing a new memoir where he completely opens up about his life, personal experiences and relationships in and outside of Hollywood.
The memoir will be called “Pageboy” and is set to be released in 2023. And naturally, a big part of the book will cover the Inception actor’s journey with fully transitioning.
However, Page will also be addressing his acting career, such as getting an Oscar nomination in 2008 for her role in Juno, and how his being trans affected himself and others.
Flatiron Books describes it as a memoir that “will delve into Page’s relationship with his body, his experiences as one of the most famous trans people in the world, and will cover mental health, assault, love, relationships, sex, and the cesspool that Hollywood can be”.
Elliot Page feels now he can “just exist”
When Page first came out as transgender in 2020, he did so by posting a lengthy statement on his social media. He expressed how “lucky” he felt and that he was accepting who he really was more and more each day.
And when Vanity Fair checked in with the actor in April 2021, he said that he was filled with “joy and excitement”.
“The most significant difference is that I’m really able to just exist…For the first time in, I don’t even know how long, [I am] really just being able to sit by myself, be on my own, be productive, and be creative. It’s such an oversimplification to say it this way, but I’m comfortable. I feel a significant difference in my ability to just exist—and not even just day to day, but moment to moment.”
Hollywood can get ugly
In the memoir, Page will also be covering stories of how he himself had to endure homophobic hatred – both in his home town and Hollywood. And while he doesn’t reveal the Hollywood names who have acted homophobic, he does tell the reader what happened and how few were willing to help.
Page also reveals that there was one particular male director who tried to seduce a then 16-year-old Page and another big movie star who later in life slandered Page in an outrageous homophobic rant.
Elliot Page has always tried using his platform to raise awareness for good. And in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Page admitted that he was still in the process of trying to “settle into his body” and his new life.
But despite the discomfort, he felt that “it’s the right thing” to do the high-profile interview with Oprah so that he can use his “visibility as a celebrity to speak up for a trans population”. And at that moment, especially in the US, many trans communities were facing oppression and discrimination.
Since the news of the memoir has dropped, fans have expressed their excitement and can’t wait to read all about Elliot Page‘s life.
