David Crosby is remembered by his family as a kind soul and a rock legend. He died at the age of 81.
Rock star dies at 81
In a statement to Variety, his wife Jan Dance revealed that her husband had passed away after a long illness. The statement, however, did not include a cause of death. His passing comes just weeks after the death of rock guitarist Jeff Beck.
“It is with great sadness after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django.”
Her statement continued, “Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us. His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music. Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched.”
The career of David Crosby
During his career as a musician, David Crosby has been in two rock bands. In his early days, the musician formed part of the group called the Byrds. However, he was dismissed from the group after three years of joining the group.
Following his exit, David Crosby met Stephen Stills and Graham Nash. The group would then form a group called Crosby, Stills & Nash.
The trio had great success with their first album, which was self-titled. Their sold millions of copies and would later do the same with the second album De Ja Vu with their additional group member, Neil Young.
In a tribute to David Crosby, Graham Nash relayed that his death leaves him with a tremendous void. Adding that they had in common the passion for creating good music.
“I know people tend to focus on how volatile our relationship has been at times, but what has always mattered to David and me more than anything was the pure joy of the music we created together,” Nash wrote. “He leaves behind a tremendous void.”
The star’s last album, For Free, was co-written and produced by his son James Raymond. The father-son duo was separated from one another for 30 and reunited after Raymond did research and found out who his biological father is.
David Crosby leaves behind his wife Jan Dance, his daughter Bailey Jean-Cypher, and sons Django and James Raymond.
