We don’t know why the latest trend in Hollywood seems to involve celebrities on stages getting assaulted but here’s another one for the list. On Tuesday night 3 May, US comedian Dave Chappelle’s show was interrupted when he got tackled on stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Dave Chappelle’s attacker ends up in a stretcher
Chappelle was closing off his show The Closer at the Netflix is a Joke festival when a man was seen charging onto the stage and tackling the comedian mid-sentence.
As the Daily Maverick reported, Chappelle’s show was criticized by some in 2021 and saw it as “ridiculing” transgender people. Thus, many tweeps are wondering whether this attack was in line with the same critiques.
It didn’t take long before videos of the incident started circulating on social media. And it seems that as soon as Chappelle was tackled, his security and other members of the audience immediately rushed to the comedian and started beating the unknown man.
And as shown in the video below, the attacker ended in a stretcher with what seems like a dislocated shoulder.
According to News24, the Hollywood Bowl revealed to Reuters that there is an “active investigation” undergoing after the incident.
‘Was that Will Smith?’
Chris Rock, who also got attacked on stage not too long ago when Will Smith slapped him during the 2022 Oscars, was also in attendance at Chappelle’s show.
And of course, the comedian took the chance when he saw it and took a quick jab at Smith.
Once the stage was busy clearing out and an unharmed Chappelle returned, Rock approached Chappelle and asked into the microphone, “Was that Will Smith?”
