Celine Dion has been struggling with health issues for some time now but the singer is finally ready to talk about it.
Singer Celine Dion opens up about her health struggles
In a post to her social media account, Celine Dion got candid about her health struggles over the past year. The singer has canceled some of her tour dates while others have been pushed to 2024.
While opening up to her fans about her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome. She shared, “As you know, I’ve always been an open book. And I wasn’t ready to say anything before,” said a solemn Dion, seemingly on the verge of tears in the brief video. “But I’m ready now…”
She continued to share that she had been going through issues “with [her]health” and that it’s been “difficult to face” and talk about her struggles.
Celine Dion noted that the Stiff Person Syndrome has caused her to have unexplained and sudden spasms. Which would affect her daily movements and her singing ability. Scientists are currently unsure what the root cause of the rare illness is.
What is Stiff Person Syndrome?
As a result, Celine Dion has had to push some of her concerts until 2023. While some of her tour dates have been canceled altogether. Most of her European tour dates have also been pushed to 2024 while the singer deals with her health issues.
“Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life. Sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to,”
According to Billboard, Stiff Person Syndrome is an illness that affects 1 in a million people every year. The illness can take a great toll on an individual’s health as it increases one’s sensitivity to sound.
Stiff Person Syndrome also leads to individuals avoiding going outdoors as loud sounds such as a car hooter can send through a shock in the body and ultimately cause one to lose balance.
