With excitement growing around the latest streaming platform coming to South Africa, Disney+ is teasing its broad catalogue of shows and movies.
Business Tech reported that the Walt Disney Group was attending a virtual media briefing on Thursday 5 May when they confirmed their catalogue.
According to the group, Disney+ will showcase a back catalogue of more than 1 000 movies and 1 500 TV shows. And together with this, there will also be 200 original series, movies and specials available when the platform launches in South Africa.
Here is a list of what many are most excited for:
- All Star Wars content released
- Marvel shows and movies
- The “Disney vault” – includes all Disney animated classics
- Adult-focused shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Pam and Tommy
- The National Geographic catalogue
- General entertainment content through Star – includes all 33 seasons of the Simpsons
What to know about Disney+ in South Africa?
The popular streaming platform is set to launch on 18 May in South Africa and is expected to be a huge competitor against Netflix.
The streaming service is set to cost R119 per month or R1 190 for an annual subscription.
High-quality viewing will be available for up to four concurrent streams. And users will also have access to unlimited downloads on up to 10 devices.
And with the ability to set up seven different profiles, parents will be able to set up a kids’ profile with an easy-to-navigate, child-friendly interface to access age-appropriate content.
