Akon fans were expectant this week at the Saint Lounge. However, they didn’t get what they paid for.
Akon fails to show up for his performance
In the days leading up to his performance, Saint Lounge frequently promoted the performance of Akon from the days 3 to 5 January this week.
Entrance to the venue costs from R350 to R1 million. To book tables, visitors would pay from R500 000 to R1 million for a table. This was reportedly the minimum spend at the event at Saint Lounge this week.
To their dismay, Saint Lounge shared that Akon did not hold his end of the deal as a result of his team. The establishment noted that the singer had been paid what was agreed to perform at the Saint Lounge.
“We were approached by representatives of Akon with an opportunity for us to book him,” read the statement. “After numerous meetings, we agreed on a sum to be paid. We then paid over the amount to the representatives as per our agreement in full and on time.”
In their statement, Saint Lounge expressed that the situation which took place on Tuesday night was “beyond [their] control”. They further added that they remain a reputable institution and will always deliver what they promote.
Saint Lounge sets the record straight
In their statement above, Saint Lounge did not make any mention of handing out refunds as a result of the singer failing to pitch.
While Akon didn’t hold his end of the deal, Saint Lounge revealed that they will still be open on the nights the singer was scheduled to perform.
This is not the first time establishments have had issues with artists unable to honor their performance deals. Rapper Glorilla has also been accused of scamming small businesses out of money after her team promised them a performance from the rapper.
In response, the rapper noted that people should be careful of scammers. The rapper reportedly denies ever receiving money or being booked for these respective performances.
Akon has yet comment on the matter. This is a developing story.
