Chery has left no doubt about its global aspirations with a top-notch performance in the Euro NCAP safety tests.
In the most recent report from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), the new OMODA C5 met the highest active and passive safety standards during its destructive crash tests. It received a full five-star rating, the highest awarded by Euro NCAP.
This is the first time that a vehicle from Chery – China’s leading vehicle exporter – was tested by Euro NCAP. The results, however, reflected those of the OMODA C5 and many other Chery vehicles, that have received full five-star safety ratings in the Chinese NCAP tests.
“The OMODA C5’s crash-test performance is significant in many respects,” says Tony Liu, the Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.
“For one, it is a firm endorsement of Chery’s commitment to vehicle safety and the safety and security of its passengers. For another, it offers independent validation of the quality of engineering and manufacturing of Chery vehicles. After all, safety starts with the vehicle design and is directly dependent on build quality.”
With reference to build quality, the tests noted that the OMODA C5’s safety cell can withstand pressures of over 1800 Megapascal (Mpa) thanks to its design and its use of ultra-high tensile strength steel and other materials. This has allowed the OMODA C5’s body shell to remain intact during both front and side crash tests at high speeds.
In the Euro NCAP report, the organisation’s vehicle-test engineers gave the vehicle a score of 87% for the protection of adult occupants, and the same score for the protection of child passengers. It also gave it a score of 88% for the quality and efficacy of its safety-assistance systems.
Among its many standard safety features, the OMODA C5 is fitted with an airbag between the front occupants. This protects the front occupants from colliding with each other and being injured in a side impact accident.
The OMODA C5 also has an impressive list of active safety features. In fact, there are 16 distinct advanced driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control with an in-built radar system.
“For Chery, safety is not negotiable. This means that all our models, from the Tiggo 4 Pro to the upcoming OMODA C5, offer a very high level of safety features as standard and why families can safely trust their Chery to keep them safe around town and on longer trips,” says Liu.
The OMODA C5 is a next-generation sporty crossover that will soon be offered to customers in South Africa. This heralds the introduction of a new range of futuristic vehicles which embody Chery’s “Art in Motion” design language, into the South African Market. The Omoda C5 is all about the unconventional and fashionable and its arrival will create a futuristic space called O-universe which is set to appeal to individualistic urban trendsetters who dare to be different.
