A 60-year-old man from Litchenburg was allegedly mauled to death by his three dogs on Saturday afternoon during load shedding.
“The incident was reported on Saturday, 7 January 2023 at about 15:00,” said Captain Sam Tselanyane, the police spokesperson.
It is alleged that on the said day during load shedding, the deceased’s wife was busy on the outside of their house when she heard the dogs barking. She did not bother to go and check why the dogs were barking as the house is situated on a busy street and the dogs frequently bark at pedestrians and vehicles that pass by.
When load shedding ended and electricity was restored, the woman went back into the house to look for her husband. She then allegedly noticed him lying motionless in the front garden. She immediately went to him, where she discovered he had been bitten by their dogs, two Staffie/pit bull crossings, and one unknown breed, Captain Tselanyane explained.
He added that police and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) were called and the man was certified dead at the scene. The SPCA was also called to the scene and the three dogs were removed from the premises.
“As a result, an inquest docket has been opened and investigation into the matter,” Tselanyane confirmed.
