Bob McGrath passed on this past Sunday. His family shared a statement on his official Facebook account.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the family shared that the iconic actor has died with his loved ones close by.
The cause of death for Bob McGrath
The statement read, “The McGrath family has some sad news to share. Our father Bob McGrath, passed away today. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family,”
According to NPR, his daughter Cat McGrath shared that her father died of complications following a stroke he recently had. He was 90 years old at the time of his passing. The actor was alongside his family at the time.
The Sesame Workshop also paid tribute to the late actor and musician. They spoke of his presence on the show and what he contributed to it.
“A founding cast member, Bob embodied the melodies of Sesame Street like no one else, and his performances brought joy and wonder to generations of children around the world,”
Till the day of his passing, Bob McGrath has been an active member of Sesame Street. He went on to be part of the franchise for at least five decades. He was prominently known for his role as Bob Johnson alongside Big Bird and the beloved muppets which are still popular today.
Reflecting on his decision to join Sesame Street, Bob McGrath previously shared that he knew there was something “special” about the show before he started. The actor would later appear in 47 seasons of the show before it was eventually stopped.
“I thought, to heck with that teenage thing, this is what I want to do. Because it was obvious from the very, very beginning this was going to be a very unique and incredible show.”
Bob McGrath officially retired from his role on Sesame Street but ultimately continued to do appearances that were linked to Sesame Street.
The actor leaves behind five children, eight grandchildren, and his wife Anne Sperry.
