One year left before the largest gathering of Jimnys and the biggest jol in Mzanzi
The countdown has started for the largest Suzuki Jimny gathering in the Southern Hemisphere… and possibly the world.
Scheduled for 22 to 24 September 2023, the Jimny Safari Town Festival and Jimny Gathering will bring together hundreds, if not thousands of Jimny owners and fans to set a record for the largest number of Jimnys on one site. More importantly, it will be the largest jol yet for fans of this plucky 4×4.
The event will be hosted in the scenic town of Clarens in the Eastern Free State. The venue was chosen, not only for its beauty, but also for its ease of accessibility from virtually anywhere across the country.
“The Jimny is one of Suzuki’s most popular and aspirational global models that appeals to a wide audience consisting of highly passionate professionals, adventurers, creatives and artists.”
“Many local influencers, media personalities and industry professionals are Jimny owners, and the Jimny Gathering, which has been a few years in the making, aims to celebrate more than 50 years of Jimny adventures at one BIG Jimny family gathering,”
says Brendon Carpenter, the Brand Marketing Manager of Suzuki Auto South Africa.
The build-up to the event starts today with the official launch of the Jimny Gathering 2023 website. The site will allow Jimny owners and enthusiasts to register their Jimny, SJ, Samurai and Suzuki LJ – all of the generations – on the site and show their interest and intention to join the event.

“Suzuki Auto South Africa entered the market in 2008, and since then we have sold over 17 500 Jimnys. By the time we host our owners in Clarens, this number should be well over 20 000. And this does not account for the many owners of LJ, Samurai and SJ models,” says Carpenter.
“If we can host even a small fraction of these owners in the beautiful town of Clarens, we will set the record and send a clear message to Suzuki owners in other countries on how passionate and proud we are of our Jimny Family.”
The Suzuki Gathering weekend will start on Friday 22 September 2023 as the first eager Jimnys arrive for the full weekend experience.
On Saturday, Suzuki and its fans will depart on a Jimny Expedition and have fun at the Safari Town Festival where local bands Mango Groove, Goodluck and Spoegwolf will be performing. Other artists will be announced in the coming months.
On Sunday 24 September, everyone will celebrate National Heritage Day and gather for the Jimny Gathering Event to set an official gathering record.
On Monday 25 September, a public holiday, everyone will head home with their albums full of fantastic memories.
To make the gathering even more fun, Suzuki has asked local comedian, actor and fellow Jimny owner, Schalk Bezuidenhout, to host the Jimny Gathering event.
“Our Brand’s mission statement is very simple – Suzuki Turns Everything Into A Fun Adventure. From sending our Swift Sport to the Simola Hill Climb to having fun in between supercars or having a city jol with our top-selling Vitara Brezza, we are here for the party. And nowhere will this be more evident than with our Safari Town Festival and Jimny Gathering Event,”
says Carpenter.
