Gauteng police are on the hunt for a gang of 15 armed robbers who stormed Crossover International at Lakeside Mall in Benoni on Wednesday afternoon, firing shots and wounding a worker.
According to the police, the robbers fired shots randomly, leaving one female worker injured in one of the stores. ER24 however, reported that a man and woman got injured in the incident.
Russell Meiring, the spokesperson said the paramedic service and Life Healthcare arrived on the scene to find the SAPS and security members already attending the crime scene. “Medica were led into a rear of a shop, where a man was found with a minor wound to his buttocks. A woman was found in another shop with a minor wound to her chest. Both patients were treated and transported to a private hospital for further care,” Meiring said.
Colonel Mavela Masondo, the police spokesperson said the suspects were travelling in three motor vehicles. “On their way out, the suspects started shooting randomly as they were running towards their getaway vehicles- three Sedands.”

In a 40-seconds video making rounds on social media, five of the suspects are seen leaving the mall, with some of them carryings stolen goods. Two of the suspects are seen shooting at the mall’s entrance while their accomplices followed them with the stolen goods.
Two of the robbers are seen struggling to load the stolen items, which they end up leaving behind as they make their getaway. One of the robbers eventually climbs into the boot of the car before they fled the scene.
“No arrests have been made yet. A case of business robbery and attempted murder has been opened for investigation,” Masondo said.
