Western Cape police are investigating another mass shooting where five people were killed in Khayelitsha on Saturday.
At approximately 8:30pm three men aged 34, 36 and 50 were shot and killed on the corner of Nyebelele and Ntango Streets in Site C. Colonel Andre Traut said the motive for the shooting is not clear and the suspects are still at large.
In an apparent separate incident, tow men were shot and killed in Tutu Avenue, Makhaza at 9:53pm on Saturday evening. Traut said the victims were travelling in a blue Hyundai Sedan when they were attacked by occupants who were driving a while VW Polo.
The suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting. One of the victims was declared dead on the scene, while the second victim who was rushed to receive medical treatment following the shooting, succumbed to his injuries while on the way to the hospital.
Traut said: “We have reason to believe that the incident could be linked to the drug trade in the area, but this will be established as our investigations unfold.”
Two days earlier, on Thursday 14 July, five people were shot and killed in different areas in Alexandra township in Johannesburg. On of the victims was Alex FM station manager Joshua Mbatha also known as DJ Josh.
Mbatha was shot in the chest after he had been robbed with his colleagues as they were making their way home.
