A group of African National Congress (ANC) members led by suspended ANC member Carl Niehaus marched to the party’s headquarters at Luthuli House to hand over a memorandum of demands to on Friday.
The march led by former ANC NEC Carl Niehaus and former North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo, alongside the Radical Economic Transformation (RET) saw crowds of people marching to Luthuli house and calling for President Cyril Ramaphosa to step down amid the Phala Phala allegations.
The marchers want Ramaphosa to be suspended pending investigations into the Phala Phala saga, where he is alleged to have concealed a burglary theft of millions of dollars. The march led by suspended ANC member Carl Niehaus took place under the banner ‘Ramaphosa Must Go’.
Niehaus is part of a RET forces which is a group that is against Ramaphosa and completely in support of former president Jacob Zuma. The group called on law enforcement to look into the allegations and charges laid against Ramaphosa. They also called on the price of petrol to be reduced.
Niehaus said some of the party members believe Ramaphosa should be removed from his position. “The ANC is not really marching against itself. It is ANC members marching specifically against what we have been told and what we have heard with the charges brought against Ramaphosa and demanding from the ANC NEC that the right steps be taken now. President Ramaphosa should be removed from his position, and he has to face the music. There are very serious charges brought by Arthur Fraser and we are surprised that it is taking SAPS and the NPA such a long time to push charges against Ramaphosa in light of the overwhelming evidence.”
